Palliative massage is comfort-focused bodywork that supports people living with serious, chronic, or life-limiting illness. The goal is ease, not intensity. Sessions are gentle, shorter than traditional massages, and tailored to help with common symptoms such as pain, nausea, anxiety, low mood, and sleep difficulty. Palliative care often works alongside medical treatment and integrative therapies as part of a team that can include physicians, nurses, social workers, and spiritual care providers.
At Heather’s Balancing Touch in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, every session is individualized. Heather listens to current needs, adapts positioning with pillows and bolsters, and uses slow, soothing techniques that invite the nervous system into a restful state.
Hospice massage offers the same gentle, comfort-first approach for clients with a terminal diagnosis who are receiving hospice care. The goal is soothing presence, relaxation, and dignified comfort, not corrective or deep therapeutic change. Sessions are unhurried, pressure is feather-light, and touch is offered only where it brings ease. Family and caregivers may be present if desired, and brief guidance in simple hand or foot holds can be shared to support comfort between visits.
Massage is not a replacement for medical care, and it may not be suitable for every situation. If you or your loved one has an underlying condition, recent procedure, fever, infection, fragile skin, or areas with medical devices, please consult your care team first. Heather will coordinate within those guidelines to keep the session safe and restorative.
